Would you rather get your oil changed every several months or save the oil money – and drive you car into the ground after a year or two? Pretty much everyone would get their oil changed, no? Except when it comes to healthcare, driving our bodies into the ground is accepted, even promoted. If most cancers are fatal in the later stages, why aren’t checkups and exams free? Which would cost less in taxes, a few checkups for someone with no insurance, or that same person going to the ER after a serious medical event only to learn they have had cancer for years and will die soon after. That person will receive expensive ER care whether they have insurance or not. Preventative care is much cheaper. Pretending we are saving money but denying care to these people is not only cruel, but moronic. The attitude itself is poisonous to a moral, well functioning society.
