Pain pump replacement therapy is a type of procedure used to treat on going and hard back pain. During the procedure, the surgeon places a small pump and a catheter near the targeted nerves. Once inserted, the device is then able to send the medication to the spinal fluid in small and specific doses. Hence, it helps relieve a good amount of back pain.
The device can be positioned in one of two areas of the body,
- the back
- the abdomen.
The side effects of this procedure include the following: infection, bleeding, catheter blockage and in rare cases the pump can stop working.
